Contents
Fe fumarate (elemental Fe 98.6 mg) 300 mg, vit B1 5 mg, vit B6 5 mg, vit B12 15 mcg, folic acid 500 mcg
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of Fe-deficiency anemia & folate deficiency in pregnant women. Prevention of neural tube defects in infants.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab daily. Severe anemia 1 tab bid.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Primary hemochromatosis, peptic ulcer, regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis. Patients receiving parenteral Fe or blood transfusions.
Special Precautions
Should not be used to treat hemolytic anemia. Not ≥6 mth of therapy.
Adverse Reactions
GI irritation eg, nausea, vomiting, bloating, upper abdominal discomfort; temporary staining of teeth; darker stools.
Drug Interactions
Decreased absorption of Fe w/ tetracycline & some antacids. Decreased conc of quinolones. Delayed responses to Fe therapy w/ chloramphenicol. Decreased absorption & reduced bioavailability of carbidopa, levodopa, methyldopa & penicillamine.
